R3PLAY is a brand new show celebrating four decades of gaming history. Presented in association with Retro Gamer and gamesTM magazines, this unique event will offer gamers of all ages the chance to experience gaming systems from the 1970s to present day.

Hosted by TV personality and videogame fanatic Gail Porter, the R3PLAY Expo will take place at The Norbreck Castle Exhibition Centre in Blackpool on 6/7 November 2010 – the final weekend of this year’s famous Illuminations.

So if you’re up in Blackpool for the weekend, live in that neck of the woods or want to discuss any possibilities, come see us on the stand on the Saturday or Sunday.

Mini Daytona cab

“DAYTONAAAAA” Albeit a fairly old game, someone from the Retrovicio forums has built a miniature Daytona cabinet. All the controls are jammed on there too… gear stick, wheel and those illuminated square buttons. The wheel is actually a radio-control remote. Though what it’s doing on the bed is anyone’s guess…

Play some table football in style

In these winter months when going outside for a kick-around isn’t so appealing, maybe staying in and playing on a table of luxury materials is the better option. Italian Billiard-table maker Cavicchi have produced a high-end football table with “crystal playfield, shiny black floor and silver playlines”. Available in a range of materials and finishes from solid timber to gloss.

As part of pacman’s 30th birthday, you can now buy him help you clean your dirty dishes… though I think I’ll need 10 of them every time I have to tackle mine.

Retro-Tech’s new media table

Retro-Tech have just released their new Platinum table offering up a “full multimedia experience”.

Running on Windows, it holds a 22″ LCD and uses the Logitech diNovo Edge as offered with the surface tension arcade tables. Other details are a little thin on the ground, but it’s a great looking table.

DreamPin: LCD pinball machine

Build Your Own Arcade Controls member, H4CK3R has recently finished his LCD-based pinball machine. Though he says it’s at 95%, most projects sit around that mark forever as there is always something to tweak or re-do.

You can see the thread here which has some build detail, or check out his youtube video. Well worth a look!

Bath-time for nerds

I don’t think your stereotypical gaming nerd is used to washing. But when that time does come around, then there’s plenty of choice. They could either go for some block-based bathtime scrubbery…

Ben Heck’s C64 laptop

I’m a bit late writing about this one, but it still deserves a post. I wrote about the work-of-art that was the Atari 2600 handheld some time ago. Well the latest creation is the C64 laptop…

c64_laptop_1.jpg

It does its 1541 drive emulation using an SD card so you can drop stuff on it from the pc, then slip it in the C64.

It’s a working system, not just pretty. There’s a whole heap on information on benheck.com. Awesome work.
