surface tension will be at r3play - the arcade, retro and video gaming expo in Blackpool on the 6th and 7th November.

R3PLAY is a brand new show celebrating four decades of gaming history. Presented in association with Retro Gamer and gamesTM magazines, this unique event will offer gamers of all ages the chance to experience gaming systems from the 1970s to present day.

Hosted by TV personality and videogame fanatic Gail Porter, the R3PLAY Expo will take place at The Norbreck Castle Exhibition Centre in Blackpool on 6/7 November 2010 – the final weekend of this year’s famous Illuminations.

So if you’re up in Blackpool for the weekend, live in that neck of the woods or want to discuss any possibilities, come see us on the stand on the Saturday or Sunday.

“DAYTONAAAAA” Albeit a fairly old game, someone from the Retrovicio forums has built a miniature Daytona cabinet. All the controls are jammed on there too… gear stick, wheel and those illuminated square buttons. The wheel is actually a radio-control remote. Though what it’s doing on the bed is anyone’s guess…

Internet-enabled coat rack

This good looking, retro coatrack apparently connects to the Internet to get the weather to help you pick the right clothing before going outside. Not sure what happened to the old-fashioned method of looking out the window or opening the front door. A great concept and (in my eyes) a nice looking thing to have on your wall.

Bandai Namco isn’t done gearing up for the 30th anniversary of their signature character Pac-Man yet, as they have now launched two websites (which include a countdown to that anniversary) dedicated to the iconic guy. PacMan.com can be found in both English and Japanese, with the sites differing quite a bit depending upon the language. Currently the Japanese site has a better design with more content but both cover a history of the game, let you download PC-based or mobile Pac-Man games and even provide a source for official Pac-Man gear. Hopefully the English site will soon add the historical look at the game that the Japanese site has, which covers every Pac-Man game released since it was called Puckman.

At the moment both sites feature a countdown (currently set at 45 days) for the arrival of the anniversary, where I imagine that they will then update the sites to include information on the new Pac-Man Battle Royale arcade game and perhaps some other things.

Arcane arcade table - updates and new photos

We’ve recently been working on some some subtle changes to the Arcane surface tension table and have just delivered the first. The visible changes are the keyboard/mouse/stuff storage, hi-gloss sides and the slightly longer control panel housing 2 x 7-button layouts and a spinner. The 7-button layout enables you to play using the choice of NeoGeo-style 4-button or Streetfighter2 style 6-button arrangement. As usual, 2 of the buttons double up as mouse buttons so you can navigate windows using the trackball.

We also managed to find the time to do a photo shoot.

This particular system had a little more grunt than the standard. Boasting an Intel i7 CPU, 8GB 1366 DDR3 RAM and 256GB SSD… all housed in the mighty Shuttle SX58H7. Oh, and a 26″ LCD.

Street Fighter IV due for iPhone release next month

Everything is being released for iPhone these days, so why should Ken and Ryu miss out on a piece of the action?

It is reported that this is no quick port. A lot of time and effort has gone into making a decent version suitable for this type of device. The jury is out on how the controls will handle on this one… after all, without those the game is nothing.
