Picture yourself in a Tardis photo booth

I would have never even thought about it, but the Tardis seems about the perfect size for making a good photo booth out of.  Well, that is exactly what Steve Long did. He built a portable Tardis photo booth that recently made its debut at a wedding.

This impressive 4′ x 4′ Tardis photo booth is even officially licensed by the BBC so Steve can make back the money he spent building it (and then some I would assume).  Unfortunately, when it made its debut at the wedding, while it was a huge success, only one guy (the one in the picture) out of the 270 guests knew what the Tardis was!

For further details on how Steve Long made this amazing photo-booth take a look at the inspiring site Tardis Builders where there is a galaxy full of cool Tardis builds from showers to chicken coops!

The Futur-ama of Operations

I don’t even know how many years it has been since I have played Operation, but I always enjoyed it as a kid.  It was always a challenge and it was a good game for seeing who had the steadiest hand.  Well, I think this Futurama version with Bender as the patient kicks the butt of the original board game!

Instructables member lcbo1234 is the creator of this awesome Futurama version of the board game Operation with Bender as the patient where you have to remove items from him like a gear, cigar, Fry’s wallet and a beer bottle.

If you are good at making things, you can find the guide to make your own Futurama game of Operation over at Instructables and if you do make one we’d love to see it!

The worlds largest game controller

…and that’s official.

With the launch of the Guinness book of records: Gamer edition, comes a huge feat. A bunch of students in the Netherlands have produced the worlds largest game controller. When I was at university, I was too busy playing Mario Kart.

Worlds largest controller

I hope they are working on plans to retain their title basing it on the N64 pad.

One of the other records set was a man playing Mario Galaxy in a vertical wind tunnel for 18 minutes. Maybe I can get in there too by playing GTA in a bath of beans…

Atari 2600 iPod Speaker Dock

There are plenty of iOS speakerdocks available to choose from, but if you are looking for something a little more retro and original, this modified Atari 2600 might be the perfect iOS speaker dock for you.

This retro iOS dock has been created by Daniel McLeod of Black Mountain Audio. He removed the original Atari’s internal electronics and replace them with a pair of computer speakers and subwoofer, together with a modified gaming cartridge which has now being converted into a 30-pin dock, for either your iPhone or iPodTouch.  Don’t worry, though. This Atari was already non-functional.

On the back for the iOS Atari 2600 speaker dock there is a power button, volume control, audio input jack, sub out jack and a power cable. The original controls and joystick are unfortunately for aesthetic purposes only.

McLeod explains:

“I had an old Atari 2600 that had stopped working and I couldn’t just get rid of it, so I converted it to a portable media audio dock. The Atari console had holes in the top where speakers could have gone, but Atari never built it with speakers. I took an old set of computer speakers that had a subwoofer and mounted the raw speakers and amplifier inside the console.”

If the modified Atari 2600 iOS speaker dock is something you would love to own unfortunately you’re just a little too late! McLeod made it available on his Etsy shop page priced at $100 and it was snapped up immediately.

Post-It Pixel Art

We know many of you will be back at work this week after the Christmas break and let’s face it, it sucks!! The office decorations have been taken down, you’re feeling dreary and the office is looking that way too. Well we’ve stumbled across a new craze that will brighten up your office and reduce the boredom of being back at work….Post-It window art

post-it-art.png

Employees at Ubisoft Montreuil in France started decorating their windows with Post-it pictures but, their neighbours across the street at BNP bank took their Post-it artwork as a bit of a challenge, and started firing back with some window images of their own. Thus, the Great French Post-it War of 2011 was born. Clearly, it spawned an epic rivalry worthy of the likes of Mario and Bowser.

If you decide to create some art of your own we’d love to see what you come up with. For further inspiration check out more pictures at Kuriositas

Your very own large lego head

This can only make you the envy of your mates when you wheel your gas BBQ out. After being accused of cheating for using gas that is. But once the shouts have died down and they see what’s fuelling your meat-heater, they’ll soon want their raw goods on your grill.

1. Take one stubby propane tank and some paint.

2. Paint.

3. Win.

See the Instructables guide for more info. Thanks Idedvovo, this is going straight to the top of my to-do list in the not-too-important section.

My new favourite key holder

I don’t think I ever had an old favourite, but if I did, this is the new one. As soon as I’ve raided my Mother’s loft for my old lego, I’m going to be on this.

There’s got to be a more elegant way that picture hooks and cable ties, but it’s essentially getting a lego block onto your keyring.

Then all you need to do is get a lego field/sheet/grass whatever you call it and get it up on your wall, ideally right by your door so you don’t have the opportunity to put your keys elsewhere and thus lose track of them.

Zelda chess set

It shouldn’t always be all about video games and I feel that you should always take time out to play something a little more hands-on and interactive with fellow humans.

Fizz Man Industries spent 3 months bridging that gap with his sculpted Zelda chess set. It looks like it’s based on The WindWaker version… second only to OoT. But hey that’s just my opinion and because this is my blog, that makes it gospel.

Arcade button light switch

Another way to show your hardcore roots in the home apart from arcade coat hooks, Space Invader wall stickers, and a PacMan sponge for your dishes is the Arcade Light Switch. Available over at Etsy by AlephDesign.

arcade_light_switch.jpg

Available in different colours upon request. I’m a simple man so my personal choice would be white for light and black for dark.

Probably best you don’t practise your Track and Field on this though as it does come with the warning:

***INSTALL AT YOUR OWN RISK. WE HAVE MODIFIED THIS LIGHT SWITCH, AND IT IS NOT A FACTORY PIECE. WE HAVE USED IT FOR YEARS, AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH IT.***

I can only hope the buttons are used to switch a mains relay as standard microswitches certainly aren’t designed for mains voltage.
