The worlds largest game controller

…and that’s official.

With the launch of the Guinness book of records: Gamer edition, comes a huge feat. A bunch of students in the Netherlands have produced the worlds largest game controller. When I was at university, I was too busy playing Mario Kart.

Worlds largest controller

I hope they are working on plans to retain their title basing it on the N64 pad.

One of the other records set was a man playing Mario Galaxy in a vertical wind tunnel for 18 minutes. Maybe I can get in there too by playing GTA in a bath of beans…

Pac-Man Moleskine

I missed out on the Pac-Man Moleskine notebook last year when it was released for his 30th anniversary. Thankfully I managed to find one a few days ago and now it’s arrived! There are some things I still like to do the old-fashioned way, and jotting things down in a notebook is one of them.

If you’ve owned a Moleskine notebook, you’ll know that they are like no other. With the Pac-Man theme, they’ve just got one better! Plus, being in yellow should make it a little easier to find amongst all my clutter…

The re-birth of the Commodore 64

Based around PC hardware, the new Commodore 64 is one to get if you yearn for those good old days, but also want some up-to-date functionality.

On power-up, it will be able to launch into a media centre PC or into Commodore OS 1.0.

The only downside to emulation on the C64 is not being able to re-live the wait with the loading music. I swear this is what got me into electronic music. Martin Galway, Rob Hubbard and Fred Gray (for my favourite, Mutants) to name a few of my heroes. All from 3 sound channels! Oh dear, I’ve slipped into childhood digression. OK, one more shout out for International Karate! Now where was I…

The new Commodore 64 features genuine Cherry brand key switches, which provide a feel much better than the original, with a lovely IBM classic mechanism and click sound. The keys are the exact same shape as the original and are color matched.

World’s biggest PAC-MAN

worlds_biggest_pacman_1.jpg

Ever get bored of the same old PAC-MAN playing field? No, me neither. But if you wanted to work your way round a maze created by some random crazy, or create your own, check out The World’s Biggest PAC-MAN.

Currently there have been over 27,000 mazes created and said mazes have been played over 7 million times. Incase you were wondering, around 760 million dots have been eaten.

To be fair though, there are some silly mazes, but in contrast, some people have put a lot of time and effort in to create some good things. Though probably very unplayable.

Tim McVey going for new Nibbler record

I mentioned some time ago about the Nibbler record from back in the 80′s by Tim McVey. This was beaten earlier this year…

Anyway, he’s going for it again… hoping to get it in around 36 hours this time, instead of 44!

Not sure how long is left, but it’s well worth a look at the live feed…

Pacman physics

It’s all about the yellow pill-muncher at the moment it seems!

This is a good bit of fun for half an hour. Have a go at clearing the pacman maze in a way you’d never have imagined.

It’s all about physics. Chomp on a pill and the gravity goes mental.

Pac-man ghostly t-shirts

I love these! Be prepared for inconspicuous nods from passers by as they approve of your same passion for all things retro-gaming. Available in before and after the power pill as all of your favourite ghosts… plus some new ones that maybe didn’t make the cut for the game all those years ago.

Available to buy from lowrez.de for around 20 Euros.

Asteroids watch

From the maker of the Pong watch, comes the next logical step… the Asteroids watch. Though John said “I can’t think of anything more horrid than playing pong against a computer!” so don’t get your hopes up on this one being playable either.

Space Invaders chewing gum

You know when you’ve really made it as a real retro-gamer when you’re chewing on a piece of this whilst hammering away on those buttons.

space_invaders_chewing_gum.jpg

As part of Space Invader’s official 30th birthday, this stuff is actually official as it’s licensed by Taito to Lotte candy.

I’m going to try and get my hands on some of this stuff from Japan. If I did, it wouldn’t get a chew from me!
